Progress to date

I had already dropped off Facebook, etc. a while back, and jumped to the Fediverse from the site formally known as Twitter when Elon started rumbling about purchasing it. So this is since, say, June 2025 when I finally got properly fed up with all of it.

For me, personally:

• Switched from Visual Studio Code to AstroNvim for all of my personal projects (and, when there’s an opportunity, my pay-the-bills day job work as well)
• Switched from .NET to Rust
• Switched from macOS to Linux Mint on my iMac
• Switched from Windows to Bazzite on the GGC (giant gaming computer)
• Switched from iMessage/Discord/WhatsApp to Signal

With others:

• Started co-hosting twice-a-month community potlucks, to get people together in person instead of always online
• Co-hosted social media migration parties where we helped people move from corporate media to the Fediverse and Signal
• Assisted our local community action group with mobile device security

It’s a work in progress. Here are some I’m actively working toward:

• Migrating from GitHub to Codeberg for public code and a self-hosted Forgejo instance for personal stuff
• Migrating from iOS to Graphene OS
• Migrating from macOS to some flavor of Asahi Linux on my M1 MacBook Pro
